Issue:

Sometimes I will do search on SAGE Workplace Windows app and the exact same search on SAGE Promosearch and get different results.  If I'm using the same search criteria, shouldn't they be returning the same number of products?

Solution:

SAGE Workplace Windows app and SAGE Promosearchdo indeed use the same product database. In general, the results will be the same since both products use the same database. However, these two products will not always return the exact same number of products for a given set of search criteria. Since SAGE Workplace Windows app is designed for distributor use and SAGE Promosearch is designed for end user use, there are some differences in terms of how the system executes the search that will sometimes affect the number of products returned.

For example, here are some situations that might cause a product to be displayed in one system but not in the other:

1. The item may be excluded by the "Search Restrictions" setting. If you have enabled search restrictions on your Promosearch site, the searches on your website will be different from those on SAGE Workplace Windows app. Search restrictions allow you to eliminate suppliers and/or product categories from your Promosearch product database.

1a. Open your web browser and go to http://www.sagemember.com

1b. Enter your SAGE Company ID and your password. If you do not have your main administrator password, please call us to reset your password. After filling in the login information, click "Login".

1c. Click the E-Commerce tab, then "Search Restrictions". If the supplier or category for an item is "restricted" it will not show up in the search on the Promosearch.

2. The item may be excluded because you have your store set to hide certain products. For example, Promosearch can be configured to exclude products from a previous year's catalog, products that have no picture, or products from a supplier with a rating lower than one that you specify.

Follow steps 1a and 1b if you are not already logged into your administration page. Click "Promosearch Settings" under the E-Commerce tab. Under the Search Criteria Settings area, check the options to see how your store is currently configured and make any necessary changes.

3. The supplier does not provide "coded pricing".

When performing any price searching on Promosearch, the system automatically excludes any products that do not have a price code (i.e., they are priced using net pricing). The reason for this rule is that the system has no way to determine if a net-priced product falls within an end user's search criteria. On the other hand, with SAGE Workplace Windows app, all products are returned, regardless of whether they have net pricing or coded pricing.

4. A few categories are not shown in Promosearch by default.

The  following categories are not shown in Promosearch since they are for services available only to distributors:

    Decorating Services
    Imprinting Services

Also individual items may be marked by our content specialists to "not show" on Promosearch .

5. The supplier requested the product not be shown on Promosearch.

Suppliers may flag products that for whatever reason should not be displayed in Promosearch.

6. One of the restrictions in section C7 under E-Commerce | Promosearch Settings is set to restrict the item.

There are also some other less important reasons that your results might differ slightly between SAGE Workplace Windows app and SAGE Promosearch, but they are all related to the difference in terms of the audience.
