Issue:

How does content on my website affect SEO?

Solution:

Site Title
The Site Title appears across the top of every page of a site. Titles are critical to giving browsers a quick insight into the content of a result and why it's relevant to their query. It's often the primary piece of information used to decide which result to click on, so it's important to use high-quality titles on your web pages.

Site Description
This is sometimes also called a Meta Description. Google will use the site description from a site to generate a search results snippet. A site description tag should generally inform and interest browsers with a short, relevant summary of what a particular website is about. They should be 2-3 short sentences at the most. They should be in sentence form, not keywords.

SSL
This is a Secure Socket Layer. It tells the browser/site user that the site is secure and safe to submit sensitive info. Search engines rely on this feature for ranking. Google has stated that an SSL may serve as a tie breaker if the quality signals for two different search results are equal in everything else.

Favicon
The favicon can influence SEO. Most browsers automatically look for a file called favicon.ico in the root folder of a website - if the file doesn't exist a 404 Not Found error is returned - so it makes sense to have a small or blank file rather than no file at all.

Contact Info
It's no surprise that a large portion of website views will come from users searching only for your phone number or email. Google will also use this information for browsers as well. It's highly recommended that you visit https://www.google.com/business/ to claim your business in Google. This can also be done for Bing at https://www.bingplaces.com/.

H1 Tags
H1 tags are typically the largest and most important tag on an individual page of a website. It may be used to introduce the content of that page as a whole—that is, to name the topic at hand—or to simply reflect the name of the page/business. While H1 tags may not directly impact SEO, it's still valuable to include H1 tags because of the indirect benefits they provide. For example, including H1 tags on your website can improve user experience, which can help to improve your rankings in search results.

Site Map
Having a sitemap allows search engines to crawl and index a website sufficiently. In a nutshell, sitemaps enhance the ranking of a website in search engine results, thus boosting the SEO efforts.

Can SAGE Help Me with SEO?

We start out building each site by adding some general content to get everyone started. This includes a Site Title with your company name and location and a Site Description. It is up to you customize that info further, if you choose to. We don't offer any additional help with search engine presence though. It would be a conflict of interests since all websites we host are offering the same items from the same database. We do have some articles to get you started if you want to try on your own or hire a company that specializes in SEO.

One additional step that we do highly recommend is for you to create a FREE Google Business account and to claim ownership of your website. This will help verify your location in Google Maps as well, which will help customers find you with geographical search parameters.
