Information about SAGE websites and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

Solution:

SAGE supports efforts to make websites accessible to all web visitors.  We spend a significant amount of development resources working on website accessibility issues, many of which are contained within the WCAG standards.  Our website platform is designed to allow for modern, industry-standard attributes and functionality to help support accessibility.  We also use a number of accessibility validation checkers to assist with locating potential issues.  Our websites consistently score well on these validation checks, and we continue to make changes and enhancements as warranted.

Keep in mind that we provide you with a website platform that is very flexible and customizable.  As a result, much of the site's layout, content and functionality is within your control and will always be adjusted to meet your specific requests.  This is what makes your website YOURS!  But this also means that it is important for you to make sure the site is being designed in a way that meets applicable compliance requirements.  For example, if your company colors are gray and white, you may ask that your site be designed in that color scheme to match your brand.   If the gray is too close to the white, a validation checker may suggest that your logo, navigation, etc., do not provide enough contrast.  This is an issue with the settings and content on the site, not an issue with our platform.  Our design team is always happy to help make any changes that you want to make to fulfill both your branding/style desires as well as your compliance requests.  However, note that these sometimes will conflict with one another, especially as modern design tends to often be less contrasting, not more.   We're happy to provide perspective on industry trends in this area as part of your web design process, but ultimately you will decide how you want your site to look, what content goes on the site, etc.

Lastly, be aware that online accessibility scanning tools vary in terms of their quality and adherence to the WCAG standards.  In some cases, the tools are overly-sensitive or otherwise identify false positives.  Some of these online tools are made by companies who also sell services to assist with website accessibility.

SAGE continues to monitor this area of web development, and we're always making enhancements to our platform as needed to make sure the platform remains current.
